Modesto Roadsters First-Half Finale Was a Booming Success
Cruiser’s Cash Drop sent $2,500 from the sky at Modern Woodmen Field, giving kids and families a Sunday they will not forget.
The first half of the season may have ended, but not before one major finale from the Modesto Roadsters.
On Sunday, July 12, the Roadsters hosted their second helicopter drop of the season. This time, it was not candy.
It was cash.
A total of $2,500 was dropped from a helicopter across the field, with 2,500 one-dollar bills placed inside mini capsules and released over the outfield. Kids ages 12 and under in attendance were able to participate in Cruiser’s Cash Drop.
Modesto Roadsters owner Dave Heller was in attendance and thanked fans after the game for coming out.
“I would like to thank you all for supporting the Modesto Roadsters and hope you like what we have done with the park,” Heller said. “I hope you will be back as we will be doing a candy drop next month.”
As Heller and the Roadsters front office staff began lining up kids ages 12 and under, the sound of helicopter propellers began to ring throughout Modern Woodmen Field. Kids looked up, eyes wide, as the helicopter circled the ballpark.
Capitol Helicopter partnered with the Roadsters for the event, with pilot Daniel Powell helping make Cruiser’s Cash Drop a success by releasing the cash onto the field.
After the helicopter flew off and the cash had landed, the countdown began.
When the countdown reached zero, the kids rushed the field, trying to collect as much cash as they could.
For a few minutes, the whole ballpark was filled with chaos, but in the best possible way.
Kids were smiling, laughing, and even helping each other collect cash to fill their bags. Families came together. Memories were made. That is Modesto Roadsters baseball.
Every kid walked onto the field excited for the chance to collect cash, and every kid walked off with a bag that was just a little bit heavier.
