Handron walks it off as Roadsters storm back from 11 down to stun Mobiles, 12-11

The Modesto Roadsters erased an 11-0 deficit with 12 unanswered runs and defeated the RedPocket Mobiles, 12-11, on Max Handron's two-out, two-run walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth on Wednesday night at Modern Woodmen Field. Osiris Johnson went 3-for-5 with a three-run homer and five RBIs to power the comeback, and the Roadsters won their eighth consecutive game to remain a perfect 8-0 in the second half of the Pioneer Baseball League season.

 

RedPocket built its lead behind Jordan Harrison-Dudley's three-run homer in the third and a five-run sixth that made it 11-0, with Spence Coffman driving in four runs, Justin Johnson adding three RBIs, and Royce Clayton Jr. collecting two hits in his first start of the series. Modesto answered in the bottom of the sixth when Johnson launched a three-run homer to left center and Tyler Williams added an RBI double, and the Roadsters sent 12 men to the plate in a six-run seventh on Handron's RBI single, Johnson's two-run double, Logan Sutter's RBI double, and back-to-back bases-loaded walks drawn by Hayden Dunhurst and Leiker Figueroa to pull within 11-10. Williams opened the ninth with a walk, Dunhurst moved him up with a sacrifice bunt, and Figueroa singled before Jacob Lojewski walked to load the bases with two outs. Handron then lined a full-count single into right field to score Figueroa and Williams and end it.

 

Jonah Jenkins allowed five earned runs over four innings in the start for Modesto, and Cole Seward worked 1 2/3 innings in his professional debut before Anthony Diaz steadied the game with 2 1/3 scoreless innings. RedPocket starter Ren Abe-Arias struck out seven over six innings and departed leading by seven runs, but Philip Sanders surrendered five runs while recording just one out in the seventh, and Nathan Darden (L, 0-1) took the loss after Modesto rallied for two in the ninth. Aaron Moreno (W, 4-2) struck out the side in a scoreless ninth to earn the win. Figueroa reached base three times with two hits and two runs, Handron drove in three, and Modesto drew nine walks while Johnson finished a triple shy of the cycle in the biggest comeback of the Roadsters' season.

 

Modesto goes for the sweep in the series finale against RedPocket on Thursday night at Modern Woodmen Field, with first pitch at 7:11 PM. The Roadsters then travel to Marysville for a three-game weekend series against the Yuba-Sutter Freebirds. Tickets are available at modestoroadsters.com.
